Quebec City's old-school thrash war machine SOOTHSAYER returns with Chapter IV, their long-awaited new full-length on CDN Records. Forty years deep into the fight, the band shows zero signs of slowing down. This is pure, unrelenting Canadian thrash metal forged in the fires of the '80s underground and sharpened by decades of experience.
Formed in 1984/1985 in Beauport, Quebec, Soothsayer helped lay the foundation for Canadian thrash alongside the scene's most savage acts. With a classic lineup that has remained remarkably stable — Stephan Whitton (vocals), Martin Cyr (guitar), Denis Roy (guitar), Simon Genest (bass), and Daniel Clavet (drums) — the band delivers the kind of raw, no-compromise aggression that defined the genre's golden era. Their sound blends lightning-fast riffs, crossover energy, speed-metal fury, and that unmistakable Quebecois bite.
Previous releases like the debut Have a Good Time (1989), Troops of Hate (2012), and Death Radiation (2019) established Soothsayer as one of the most consistent and respected names in underground thrash. Chapter IV continues the saga with even more intensity, tighter execution, and the kind of pit-starting anthems fans have been craving. The lead single “Kick Throat” already proves the band is swinging harder than ever — a brutal, high-octane crusher that sets the tone for the full assault.
Themes of humanity, social responsibility, and dark humour run through their work, delivered with the snarling attitude and technical precision that only veterans can pull off. This isn't nostalgia, it's a continuation of a legacy built on sweat, volume, and zero bullshit.
Chapter IV is the next chapter in one of Canada's longest-running thrash stories. If you're into old-school thrash that actually delivers the goods in 2026, Soothsayer has your back.
