Info : Musically, things went very quiet for the band after their last album, "Wotan's Return," in 2011. It wasn't until a collaboration with Hrossharsgrani that hopes were raised for a new album, or indeed anything new at all. Now, "Winterwitch" has finally arrived, and it doesn't actually sound all that different from their previous work. Raw and unpolished black metal combined with very epic passages makes a strong impression. Guest musicians like Hugin and his wife (the woman on the cover) support Oculta Mors, adding depth and emotion to the tracks. "Those who are declared dead live longer" certainly applies to Nachtfalke. Anyone familiar with their earlier work won't encounter any unpleasant surprises, as "Winterwitch" is a powerful album with faster, harsher passages, such as in the second track, "Northstar," or the epic piece "Orion Rising," which truly evokes goosebumps. The production is powerful, which is exactly what I expected. I'm wondering where the cover version titled "Winterwitch" comes from? Many of us will likely be familiar with the song. The album closes with another strong Bathory cover, "The Return of Darkness and Evil," which, for me, rounds off a strong overall work.
